2001 Audi A6 shift knob help please
So i read a past thread on how to fix tiptronic if the magnets fell off. so i followed the directions to remove my shifter knob. replaced the magnet that fell off. But now when i put the shifter knob back on the button dosent work. Acts as if a spring or something is broken, im not sure. the button just pushes in and stays. I can pull in back out, but it dosent sprig in and out like it should. Did I somehow put it back on wrong. Or did i break it. Can someone please help me. Also is there a way I can stil shift the car into gears like this. Help me.

So just to be sure. When you did it, you moved the shifter down to the 3 position, pulled the button out and then pulled the knob off? Then when you installed it you had it in 3 and pull the button out and push on? Should be fine. I have had them when the button actually comes out of the knob and its tricky to get it seated back in right.

No i had it in park position. When I put it back on...how should the button be positioned?
Uhhh If you pulled it off with it in park, you just destroyed the shifter assembly. See the yellow/clear plastic post sticking up, if you pull on that it should move through the gears. It should have a square hole in it that the knob grabs and pulls up. Its probably now broken off. You should have read how to do it before yanking it off lol.

ok so how can i fix it. and the instruction i read did not specify what gear to put the car in. I can just buy a new knob?
Well no look at your shifter itself, the thing sticking out of the floor. Is the piece on the end broken off or not.
no the plastic piece is fine and still working. the piece is not broken off.
Oh, then sweet, put it in 3rd, Pull out the button, and push the knob on. Should be all.
your talking about the white thing that come out of the shifter that when i pull up still allows me to change gears with out the leather knob that goes on top right?
