44 Mile report

Hi guys,

I have owned the car for a total of 24 hours at this point. It's driving me nuts that my work schedule hasn't allowed me more free time with my new toy, but there's always this weekend!

Couple questions/observations:

(1) Xenon Headlights - Wow! These things are amazing! Is it me or do they reduce road glare by almost 100%?

(2) Bose Sound System - I like it! Not a big fan of Bose, but all in all, my tin ears really like it. Also, is it me or does the sound quality vary from time to time? Sometimes it sounds awesome, and other times not as crisp. I have a head cold, so maybe that's it...

(3) Key Fob - First, the keys are really cool.. I love the Swiss Army thing. Question, when locking the doors, I get a sound thats a cross between a beep and something that sounds like a spring making a low pitched booing. ( sounds sort of like when you stretch a rubber band and pull on it) Is this normal? Everything functions as it should, so I'm not sure..

(4) Is the steering wheel heated? The owner's manual states that when the seat heaters are engaged, the wheel heats as well. I haven't noticed this.

(5) Oil Temp Gauge - How long before this gauge starts to register? My normal commute is about 10 minutes, and the gauge doesn't move at all. On my Lexus, the gauge usually registered a few degrees by the time I got to the office. Not sure what's normal here, but the pilot in me doesn't like gauges that don't register.

I guess that it's.. So far I really love the car. I makes me grin like a little kid when I look out my window and see it in the driveway!

3. Key fob: locking noise: normal, sounds like very soft horn honk (coming from the rear in my car)
4. Yes, steering wheel is heated when the driver's seat is turned on, usually gets noticeably warm quickly, then seems to cool somewhat
5. Oil temp gauge, usually takes mine around 8 minutes to start to move to the 150 mark, not very cold here in NoCal, though. Just a suggestion, you may want to take the long way home a couple or more times a week to let the engine heat up real well (although I suspect you are planning to drive it quite a bit anyway)
Enjoy, take a day off work.

Re: 44 Mile report

(1) It's not just you
(2) Quality has a lot to do with the source. Different CDs, radio stations and tapes can affect the quality of sound.
(3) The sound is a real short toot of the horn indicating the alarm is armed. You can change this by having your Central Locking system recoded. Check the FAQs here on AW.
(4) Don't know if that's a Cold Weat
her option or if it just comes on the 4.2?
(5) The 10 minutes you drive is right on the edge for my car. Especially on cold days.

Welcome to the club!

Re: 44 Mile report

Even in Los Angeles I have found that it will take 10+ minutes before the oil temp gauge will move. It is not recommended to punch it or use turbos to any extent until the oil temp is near the 250 mark. others here have much more info on that...

BTW, I know the feeling about not being able to drive it enuf....my wife primarily drives our 2.7T...so those rare days when i get it are certainly a treat!

Njoy!
P.S. i don't think the 2.7T's have heated steering wheels?

LOL - Memories of my first 24 hours coming back. The best part is that a year from now the little kid will still be looking out the window!!!!!

Good luck with the car and good luck waiting until 1000 miles before the fun really begins.

Ditto Bose, Bill. Some CD's sound great, others a little flat.
