A6 2.7T stumble/hesitation information?
I'm trying to help my friend get his relatively new A6 running correctly ( I don't have an Audi, but I do have a dog named quattro ). I searched the Archive, but was only able to locate a vague reference to people having a problem with the acceleration in their A6 2.7T.
When attempting to accelerate at highway speeds, the A6 stumbles and hesitates for a few seconds before gaining any speed at all. From what I understand, the problem is consistent, and easily replicated. I believe it is a 2001; although it is his 5th or 6th Audi, so I lose track.
So far, his dealer has been unable to cure the stumbling problem in three attempts. They currently have the A6, and have had it for more than a week now. This being their fourth attempt, if they don't get it right, the car will legally be a "Lemon" ( and he's a lawyer, so he's pointed this out a few times, apparently ).
I'm not sure what the dealer has already tried to fix the problem, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has experience with this problem.
Thanks, feel free to mail me directly.

Sorry, no magic bullet.
Don't have the problem, fortunately, but would have to think it could be many different things. Your guess that the dealer did a "paper job" sounds possible, because I would think something this severe should be throwing fault codes that would help them pinpoint the problem. Could be turbo related as 2.7tdallas suggests, also could be fuel system related, injectors, fuel filter (Do cars still have them?) or could even be software related, ECU or throttle by wire. Could even be fuel specific, such as a dirty tank of gas. One poster even reported similar problems after his gas dealer sold him gas contaminated with diesel.

Re: A6 2.7T stumble/hesitation information?
I recently bought an A6, and tested two diffent 2.7Ts and two different 2.8s. There was a hesitation in the early rpms from the 2.7s that I did not feel from the 2.8s. The sales rep told me that turbo lag still exists below 1800rpm. I liked the power of the 2.7 above this rpm, but living in a big metro area, don't have that many occassions to take advantage of the 2.7, and for the price, chose the 2.8. When I want to go fast, I just put my foot into it and use the tip, and it's more than enough for my typical driving. I'd say the hesitation on the 2.7T is normal. I've surprised many a car by a fast jump off the line, but I settle down quick to avoid speeding tickets and further irritation of the other driver! And besides, I've learned how quickly your 17mpg average can suffer with too much rapid acceleration! (Did get to 123 mpg using the tip on a small hill...look forward to the same mountain grade I hit 99 mpg in full auto.)

Had a similiar problem
Do you have a tip or 6-speed, in my 6 speed i had a lag in acceleratiion and the check engine light was intermittent. They changed some sensor and the problem dissapeared. I hope that it is something minor like mine was.
