A6 from Heaven!!!!
For anyone interested-
My A6 Tbelt/Vcover gaskets/cam chain tensioner/AC clutch replacement... job gone wrong(tensioner noise, Psteering pump growl), has been made RIGHT! One NEW Cam Adjuster shut up one side of head ($550 ouch but I no longer care), and oil/ filter change (or just letting oil recycle back up to adjuster)shut up the passenger side. New fluid in power steering system shut up the pump (no leaks, I still don't know where the original fluid went), and new AC compressor clutch shut up its screech. In fact, new plugs and an air filter have this baby cruising better than ever.
So... I'm ecstatic, my marriage is safe, and I feel that maybe I CAN be a mechanic sometimes (BUT I WON'T AGAIN ANYTIME SOON!!!).
I want to thank everyone again for their troubleshoot ideas and moral support. I'm not sure how I would have faired without the help of this forum and its articles(though come to think of it, I wouldn't have even tried without it, so wouldn't have spent the good part of a month with my wife's car disected). In the end I suppose I DID save money, feel good about the quality of the work done, and learned a hell of a lot about my A6. A week ago I wanted this car out of my life badly, now I think I'll give it another chance. They are nice cars when they aren't sreeching or smoking.
So... I look forward to less desperate needs on this forum like new shocks or wheels.
Thanks again,
Jeff
