A6C5 2.7 BiTurbo Quattro - 16730 - Camshaft Pos Sensor Issue
Hi all,
I am looking for some help in diagnosis/troubleshooting my Audi A6 C5 2.7 BiTurbo Quattro Avant, year 2000.
I bought the car not long ago and done the following: oil change with filter, replaced breather hoses with silicon ones, changed valve cover gaskets, changed coolant temp sender and oil temp sender. The car works and starts fine. Since I needed some cash I listed the car up for sale. Couple of guys came round and test connected it to some diagnostic tool. They told me there was an error with the camshaft position sensor. They have not bought the car and since then I decided to keep it for myself for now and started my own research / diagnosis.
The error itself is:
16730 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G163) Implausible Signal
P0346 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
According to most posts I found on various Audi forums it was always the case with wrongly installed timing belt. The car had it done approx 10k ago, according to the sticker in the engine bay.
I took the car to a local friendly VW/Audi garage and asked them to check the timing is set right. They attached the special VW tools to block the crank/camshaft from moving and advised that the timing belt is set properly as all of the markers match.
I started further research which leads to chains and tensioners.
Diagnostic groups no 90 and 93 look as follows straight after the car starts.
Group 90
Position 3 flickers between 12/14/15
Position 4 flickers between -13/-14
Group 93
Position 3 stays at -14
Position 4 stays at -1
Would the above be sufficient to determine what exactly is wrong and how to fix this?
Does it indicate chain and/or tensioner and if so, would that mean both or just one?
In order to change the chain and/or tensioner, do you need to release the timing belt or can it be done without dismantling it?
Any other suggestions?

Cheers, I have seen this one. The flex plate / drive plate - where is this exactly as I had trouble finding reference to it online. Does the timing belt need to go off to swap its position? What about the measuring blocks?

The flex plate is between the rear of the engine and the front of the transmission. If the transmission has been removed/replaced, it is possible that the flex plate was installed incorrectly.

Do you mean the below?
The phase position is displayed only when the phase adaptation was successfully concluded
It just means the adaptation happened where it should not have in the normal setup, at least it should be in the range of 1-6?
