Default Up Grades

I am in the market for a 2004 A6 2.7. I have narrowed it down to three.

My questions are:

Where can i get a new grill for the A6 (to inclide the fog light covers)?

What size wheels can I upgrade to (18/19)?

Has anyone added spaces to their cars? If so what size did you use and do you have pictures.

Thanks much.

So what car did you end up buying?

2004 2.7 A6, 99,710 miles. Black on black. I am still talking to the dealing about a extended warranty. I like that its an S Line and that it has some decent features.

Since you bought the car, now to answer some of your questions...

1. What grille are you talking about, and what fog light covers? Do you mean the hood grille? or the lower one?

2. You can upgrade to 18 and 19, some have even run 20, but their speedometer is thrown off since the wheel is too big. Go with 18", especially if there are any potholes in your area. Very easy to bend 19, even 18 is still easy enough.

3. What do you want spacers for? If you want to give your existing car a wider stance, yes, just install some 10 mm spacers. If you buy new wheels, they may need spacers to fit properly, so... depends on what you want.

Technically, none of the things you mentioned are an "upgrade". Wheels and spacers are probably going to be a downgrade.

Congrats on the purchase!

--> no clue, sorry

What size wheels can I upgrade to (18/19)?

--> either, but you'll have no sidewall, minimal load rating, ride will suck, unspring weight will rise, wheels will likely bend, and you will not get the usual benefit - which is to clear monster brakes. I went from 17s to 16s on my S6. And i track it too.

Has anyone added spaces to their cars? If so what size did you use and do you have pictures.

--> Spacers change the steering offset which is detrimental to safety and geometry. Small changes (e.g.: +5mm) are generally OK though. Try ot stay above 32mm TOTAL

Thanks much.
Enjoy the car.

@ GT Driver and Just Me... Thanks

That’s the look i am going for in terms for grille (I plan on doing silver/chrome). Wheels: I am planning on getting some Audi 5 spoke wheels prob aluminum or matted black. That chrome strip on the lip of the truck looks nice, definitely going to look into that. I want to keep as much of the original appearance as possible but at the same tine want to spice it up a lil.

That's an RS6 grille.

If you upsize wheels, look into lowering the car 1" with adjustable coilovers (ST has good reviews from people here and is cheap). Otherwise the car will look silly with low profile tires and large wheel well gaps.

Oops...too late. [Buy one that somebody with a short attention span has already done.
Otherwise YOU'RE the one pouring money into a ride.
All those mods generally get about 10 cents on the dollar return.....]

The 16" wheels are the best size for the A6. Larger size tires cost a lot more, choices are more limited, and the ride and performance go downhill. It is a pure esthetics and ego on the part of the marketing department that has give us standard 18" and larger wheels and tires.
