Thanks so much for that George, problem is, its a car I really want to buy, its a different league to all the others I have seen including BMW and VW but it has this flipping light on and its a case of I;m either all in or all out!! Its a trader who will only accept cash or bank transfer so I wouldnt have any card protection, its a 2007 Avant and literally I have checked absolutely everything else on the car and driven it and it is frustratingly perfect!! He is only asking £2000 for it - on balance do you think i should walk away? Thanks,Nikki

I think if this was an easy fix he would have taken care of it already, with the exception of the light coming on because the fuel filler cap was not put back on correctly.

Leaking seal on fuel filler cap, cap not tightened, rotted/ leaking vacuum lines, secondary air pump, etc. Lots of reasons. If you are dead set on an Audi find an experienced mechanic (translation: one that knows Audi's) to check out the car before you pay out money. If the seller will not accommodate this request, it might be possible to pay a mechanic for his time to go visit the seller. This will cost a little up front but could potentially save a few thousand down the road. Your money, just my opinion.
