Yeah I got it from a guy on Audiforums when I was suffering through my misfire investigation. It was driving me nuts that this issue, being so important, was poorly documented. I had some folks quoting 14, 15, or 16 rollers between teeth. My Bentley manual picture wasn't much help either. Anyway, don't have the A6 anymore, but stop by Audiworld once in a while to pass along the knowledge if I can help out the next guy. FYI, my problem was that prior owner did a timing job & switched the cam chain tensioners L-R to R-L. That's eventually how I learned more than I wanted to know about the Audi timing & that the tensioners are not interchangeable. Every time I had it apart, I was keeping left tensioner on left & right on right, never thinking they were switched beforehand.

Wouldn't it be funny if Bentley did a update & we see that picture in it!

By any chance, has the car ever been over-filled with oil? That could cause cat clogging. I didn't think 2.4/2.8's were that sensitive to overfill like 4.2's are, but perhaps that caused the clog. Not sure what your inspection situation is, but you could just replace the second cat with a section of exhaust pipe.
