I laugh every time I see that picture. It's been around forever and have solved more issues than we can imagine. I love that it's a kindergarden rendition of the manual. Whoever created it (and I would love to know who did) obviously never thought it would become the authoritative source for cam timing, but it is. The hand drawn picture is the bible; honor it!
Wouldn't it be funny if Bentley did a update & we see that picture in it!

I fround the breakdown...
I remove the O2 Sensor (before catalytic converter) and no more misfire !
I think the catalytic converter is plugged...

By any chance, has the car ever been over-filled with oil? That could cause cat clogging. I didn't think 2.4/2.8's were that sensitive to overfill like 4.2's are, but perhaps that caused the clog. Not sure what your inspection situation is, but you could just replace the second cat with a section of exhaust pipe.
