Which Battery (Dumb Question)
What size battery do most recommend for a daily driver A6 2.8?
I have found references to H6, H7, H8, and a few of the numbered battery sized like Group 48, 49, 92 and 94
I realize the battery tray has multiple positions for the clamp, but what is best.

I used a H7-DLG #603386 Duralast Gold two months ago for the 04 3.0 mainly because the one I bought in 12/2010 failed and was still under a 7yr warranty and that one was a 94R, no more warranties for more than 5yrs. We used the same H7-DLG battery for a replacement in my daughters 01 2.8 last year before she went into the Jetta.

Odd thing is a lot of charts show the H6, or H7.
I like the idea of the bigger battery, but for some reason the H7 is more expensive some places than the H8.
If the H8 fits, is there a down side?

I guess it is time to measure.
I know it has a bunch of holes, just not sure it goes al; the way to an H8 (But betting it does since the V8 cars call for an H8)

Measured and H6, H7, and H8 all fit.
Seems early NA get an H6, but are often shown as H7 like the Turbo and later cars.
The V8 cars get the H8.
Funny thing is H7 seem to cost the same or more than H8, so I went with the H8.
Skipped the AGM upgrade because I don't think that the car will be around for another 3 years.

Weight is always a downside. But one you may choose to accept.
Batteries are pretty simple. They are all 12V, and the amperage or CCA rating is simply one of stamina (storage capacity). Electrically, bigger is better, but physically, smaller is better.
Note the glass-mat batteries are heavier than their comparable lead-acid liquid units. The one i put in my S6 was about 60 lbs!!!!!

I know (too much) about batteries.
Was more concerned if there was some quirk of the C5 waiting to bite me in the ***.
Like, the 2.8 had a smaller alternator and was known to fry charging a drained H8, or something equality dumb.
The H8 (900CCA) is installed and all went well.
Now my son gets a couple of extra hours of forgetting to turn off the lights before I have to pick him up from work.
