Default Bellypan question about snow buildup on tail lights

Anyone still using a bellypan notice if their brake lights get frosted over more than normal?

The 1 redeeming quality of the rear foglight in winter driving is that the heat from the bulb keeps it clear compared to the brake lights. I ditched the bellypan a while ago, and notice buildup on the tails. Don't know if there's a wax or something to put on them to keep them clear.

Default You mean like this? ---->

here's what happened to me, WITH the bellypan, recently:

Note you can *just* make out where the rear fog is located (just left of the license plate space); drove the first 30 minutes before realizing I should turn it on. By then I'm sure the rear was covered in snow so even after an hour of running with the fog on it was not able to clear the snow cover.

Default snow buildup on rear of car simply due to airflow over the car...

...ever notice how dirty the back of the car gets compared to the rest of the car? On my car, this is exaggerated even more with the trunk spoiler. Ever notice how badly the back of SUVs get with dirt? Same thing with snow, which is why many SUVs have that little "wing" that direct airflow driectly down onto the rear window.

Can't possibly fathom a causal relationship there.

Default These cars just have a big rear-end! Neg air pressure sucks up a lot of dirt/snow...

... I have the bellypan and trunk spoiler and the rear constantly builds up...

Default Didn't MB design ribbed tail lights for this very reason?

Default I would guess it was one reason only - some designer thought they looked cool....

you were joking about the impact absorption, right?

Yes, I remember that blurb...however, it was meant for dirt rather than snow IIRC
