Bought new Fob of Ebay. But when I try programing it I can't even get the horn to beep?

I have a 2000 2.7t. Bought a new fob off of ebay but I...

Put my old key in the ignition

Turn to accessory

Shut door and lock it from outside with the new key.

Press Unlock on the new key...

And nothing happens... no beep. I'm 2000 so I have no immobilzer so any A6 key should work right?

Checked battery in key and it's good.

I found another programing method that involves holding the unlock door button down for 10 seconds but that didn't work either.

Think I just got a bum key?

did the number inside the new key fob match the old one

No. I thought that because I was pre immobilezer that it didn't matter. Am I retarded?

They need to have the same FCC ID, pre-immobilizer or not.

Not true, the FCC #'s on my key fobs do not match, the

part number is the most important number. And even then some part numbers are interchangeable. For example my p/n on key fob 1 is: 4Do-837-231e and on key fob 2: 4d0-837-231p. So that means e's and p's are compatible, well at least on 2000 A6's.

If I only wanted to program one keyfob to work, I did the following

which I believe is in your manual. Put the new key fob in the door and unlock the car, then press the unlock button on the keyfob. It could be lock the car and then press lock on the keyfob, don't remember. You only need to use more than one key when programming more than one keyfob to be active. Do a search over at Audiforums.com, I remember someone posting a pic of the dealer programming instructions a while back. Maybe Stoneys links might have it as well.

It is also very possible your key is not compatible. The dealer won't tell you which p/n's are interchangeable so don't even bother asking. I tried last year and just worked it out myself.

I thought the FCC ID dealt with the fob frequency..

Nevermind then.
