Has anyone used any of the national chains
( e.g., Midas, Brake Team, Sears) for simple brake job? Satisfaction level?

Default pretty easy diy job....i'd stay away from a big chain and go with a trusted local indie
where are you located?....might want to post in your local forum

f***** up by chains.

Default I would not recommend a chain for most anything
Their business simply isn't built around attention to detail and quality. They care only about getting high volume.

Default DIY..or your local town gass station/repair shop is fine....
as long as you supply the parts. I'd stay away from the chains as accountability/responsability by the tech is rare.
