calling A6Q 4.2tip transmission experts
Patient is a 2000 A6Q 4.2 Tip
Bought it a couple years ago with 37500mi on the clock
(https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...s-car-2890632/)
Did trans fluid/filter change right after I bought it.
Now it has 72000mi on it, has been a fantastic vehicle, only usual maintenance things (brakes/tires/fluids)
ABS module crapped out a couple weeks ago, was waiting for warmer weather to deal with it.
Then this happens....my wife got home a couple hours ago and said car was stuck in first gear after she stopped at the store.
Took it around the block, confirmed first gear only. No problem with reverse. Parked it in driveway, no CEL's no codes.
I've been reading what I can find about the ZF trans on here since then, lots to sift through. (clutch baskets, pressure regulators, I should've swapped in a 6speed...)
Just took it for another lap around the block to see if anything had changed when it cooled off.
Started out driving fine, upshifted & downshifted OK for a few cycles.
Was slowing to pull into driveway and it had a hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd; transmission status at bottom of dash LED screen went negative image (black text/red background)
Seems like it's driving in a higher gear now...is this the infamous "Limp Mode"?
Reverse still works fine.
Haven't put the reader on it again..too cold for me out there tonight.
We really like this car, but at nearly 20 y.o. I don't want to pour a ton money down the drain...
Any hope for this?
Thanks
Ted
