Can a bad ignition switch cause the key to get stuck in the ignition??

I'm getting ready to replace my ignition (98 A6Q) because of the no lights, AC, turn signals problem unless I pull back on the key. Recently the keys have been getting stuck in there. My wife is able to extract it by wigling it...messing with Park doesn't do anything.

Is this just a sympton of an already bad switch that's getting worse?

Maybe. Probably.

If bits and pieces are not allowing the key to be turned all the way back, then yes.

I'd replace the switch and see how it is.

Thanks. I will do this over the weekend.

Yes, and so can a tip shift lever that doesn't seat in "P" all the way. WD-40 for me.

End of problem.<Knock on wood>

Can it also cause the cruise control to not work????
