Default Car Jerks Under Acceleration

Hello everyone, I’m a new member to AudiWorld so nice to meet you. I have an Audi 1.8T A6 C5 1998 (4B5), and when I’m accelerating the car jumps at the front and you hear a cling sound from under the feet. Almost as if it’s coming from CV axles. Can anyone help me or give me some advice?

My first inclination is that you have one or more worn out CV joints. You didn't mention how many miles are on the car but I'm guessing a lot. Easy to check the axles for play. Do that. Also I would recommend you accelerate gently till you find the problem. If a CV comes apart while in motion you will cause major damage.

Hard to say. Maybe engine mounts? Have a helper rev the engine while you watch for any engine movement.

I guess they will have to run pretty fast to do that!

378k kilometeres, in miles 240k so it’s not a new car.

That’s what I thought at first but engine sits fine when revved, so I’m guessing CV axles.

Are the cv boots OK? Do the CV's make a clicking noise when you make slow full lock turns. Check that axle bolts to trans are all tight.

I'm not sure if the 1.8 has the same snub mount in the front like V6 and V8, but when they go the engine does move and you might not see if with just a rev while you're looking under the hood. Would need to be under load. Walking next to car with hood up, while car is move briskly forward from stop for a few feet might show engine movement.

If quattro, might be a rear driveshaft bearing issue. Would show up if the shaft is loose a few feet from trans.
