I had my a6 4.2 parked for about a year and have decided to pull it back out. When I replaced the battery all parking lights and dash displays immediately lit up. Mind you this is without the key in the ignition or the lights turned on. When I attempt to start it, I get a shove as if the engine wants to start but it just doesn't. What's the problem here?

Did you lock and unlock the car with the key?

I can't say that I did but I don't remember doing that. I do know that the key I have has to be programmed as far as remote locking is concerned. But it doesn't have the immobilizer

Sorry, mobile version sucks, lol... Anyway, my model doesn't have the immobilizer "chip". I assumed it might be my starter but if it was I wouldn't feel the engine move?

did you left the battery connected or did you disconnected when you left it for year ?

Did you do throttle adaption since it sounds like all power was lost for awhile. Turn key on without trying to start for a minute or so. Listen for whirring and clicks under the hood and wait till there done.

The battery was connected but lost it's charge so I replaced it. I haven't noticed whirring sounds but I will check. What is throttle adaption?
