Default Cause for Quattro shredding CV front joints?

2004 A6 quattro 2.7t. Had left front accident, breaking left CV. Replaced left half-axle. Frame appears straight and tracks straight. Drives great. But left front axle outer CV joint gets shredded in 2,000 miles. Causes??

boot lasts less than 500 miles. Tears itself apart. Mechanical joint lasts less than 2000 miles later.

One thought. Could the turning stop be maladjusted or bent allowing the wheels to be turned too far past the operational limits of the CV joint at full steering lock in one direction or the other?

Did you have the front end aligned after the accident?

Default Alignment

I took it in for 4-wheel alignment but the shop wouldn't do it because the lower control arm and the CV boot were bad. Would any of the steering linkages (control arms) be that hard on the CV joint?

The axle has a limited amount of free play designed in to accommodate suspension movement. If any of your control arms or strut are bent the CV joint may be binding which will cause failure.. The fact that the CV joint was broken in the accident would indicate some other components are bent.

Agree with this. I thought the collision damage had been repaired. If impact damaged the original half shaft ( cv) it likely damaged suspension linkages or their mounting points. This could shorten the distance between transaxle output and the wheel hub. If too short, this would destroy a cv really quickly.
