Default Nicely done

Just wanted to say nicely done. I'm rescuing an 03 a6 4.2 that was in limp mode. I replaced all the leaky seals on motor top, valve cover, plugs, vvt seals. Engine is strong. Transmission had a bad seal, can't recall exact location, but it's the one that commonly fails. I opted to fully rebuild the trans myself. I'm not a mechanic professionally, but I am in amateur status. Full rebuild done, runs great. So for the record, a single man can, pull, rebuild, and reinstall the zf 5hp24a in an Audi A6 alone without a vehicle lift or a pit. The fun for me is in the rescuing. Again, nicely done.

Yay for you, and thank you for the kind words! :-) Another Audi rescued!!

To me, the concept of doing the work without a pit sounds terrifying so I'm glad you have given a nice reality check, to make the work look less intimidating than I'd describe it. Thank you for that.

For those following Joel's example, and if your skill level is more at mine than his, you'll leave a wake of destruction and will need to replace several parts damaged by accident. My personal favorite is drilling through the axle tube, oops, while attempting to remove the black plugs from the oil pump (though admittedly I didn't do this alone, I had help).

The best source of parts I know is ZF and the best type of ZF part is: new. However, if this trashes your budget, then if you want ZF original parts albeit used, my company is an option. Many parts don't make sense as to buying used -- but some might.
