</deep breath> 1...2...3...4... FARK! got home from school today to see my car

for the first time since i left in august.

let me start by saying hello again, i havent posted much since ive been away at school and my car stayed home, but im back for a week and i hope you guys can help me with some advice.

anyway, i was grinning ear to ear getting of the plane with anticipation of taking the ol' girl out for a reunion... and to my pleasant suprise the clutch is TOTALLY shot. now i knew it was getting softer when i left over the past summer but the car has only been sitting for 3 months or so and i made sure to have my brother start it up and let it idle for few minutes every now and then while i wasnt there to drive it... i knew it wasnt gonna get better but i sure didnt think it would get any worse. anyway i get in the drivers seat, start the car, put it into reverse, let the clutch out... and... nothing :( the clutch engagement felt like jello, i was barely able to hit 5mph in first... at 3500rpms...

So, can someone give me a quote on a clutch job? im not gonna be able to do this one myself due to school/classes... im looking at the CM stage 3 (im stg 2+ w/ piggies now) along with a LWFW. yes ive done my homework on the LWFW and im sure this is what i want. especially since my stock FW has 115K miles on it, it might as well get replaced while im doing the clutch... TIA for any help or input on my clutch choice. any first hand experience with Clutchmasters?

Didn't you buy a 95 S4?

nope, thought about it before leaving for school but decided to keep the A6

Dealer quoted me..

for my 02 2.7t 6speed
$90/hr for 17 hours $1530
$560 for clutch kit (stck a6)
and a fw if needed (no price given)
total approx $2300 to $3000

I did it myself for:

$520 clutch kit (RS4)
Many weekends of cussing and bleeding.

Sorry to hear. And BTW...

...this is a really bad idea:

"i made sure to have my brother start it up and let it idle for few minutes every now and then "

4Driver4 11-16-2007 06:56 PM

Unpossible.

95 S6?
94 S4?

worse that letting it sit untouched for 3-4 months?

i didnt drain the oil or gas so i didnt want it to just sit until i came back

4Driver4 11-16-2007 07:08 PM

Yes.

Starting it for a few minutes just causes condensation to build up in the engine and exhaust systems. If you start the car, it should be fully warmed up and driven for a bare minimum of 20 minutes.

good point, i was mor woried about keeping the oil circulating

espcially with all the tiny passages in the turbos i was afraid of developing any types of clogs/blockages but i see what your saying... however the only other person that can drive a MT in my family would be my younger brother who just got his license/first car... look what i get for not wanting him to ruin my clutch...

just have one of your parents/brother drive it to work 2 or 3 times a month....

When I was across the country doing my internship my mom drove my car to work every Friday. That's plenty to keep everything okay.
