Full time power to Homelink.......possible?
#3
I didn't see an answer at www.homelink.com.
I'd like to find out how to have the Homelink on all the time, too.
Of course, I haven't read the manual yet. I am just piggybacking on buckeye's question.

Many Japanese cars do it that way
So I wouldn't think its a battery drain issue or anything like that. I found the Audi to be odd in that respect because I already had the habit of coming in, shutting the car down, and closing the door behind me. Not a big deal to reverse the last two steps,......unless the whole thing is an unconsious habit.....which of course it is.

when homelink appeared on A8 it was full time
There were complaints from customers though. A couple customers parked their cars outside at home and thieves broke the windows on the cars and simply pressed the homelink button, opened the garage door on the house, and then burgalled the house. Easy as pie.
Customers complained that if they had the normal garage door remote they could take it inside at night, but with homelink they were just screwed. So Audi changed it to be not on unless the key was in the ignition. And they've had complaints about that ever since.

Alternative solution (a serious one)
...program your garage door opener to the trunk release on your key fob. The buttons don't work once you've started the car. I keep my trunk locked (completely to the right so that the remote won't open it) all the time, so it's like a spare button for me.
You *could* program it for the door open button since... when you're driving home, you can use the homelink...when you're leaving home, the garage door will open when you unlock the car. Depends on whether you leave the car unlocked in the garage. I'm **** about locking everything, all the time.
Note that not all garage door openers can "train" to the key fob RF signals, so try it a few times and if it doesn't work, that's the breaks.

or...
They could make the button only work when the alarm isn't armed. Much like the interior lights or the radio. The car knows the difference between just not started yet (which is probably what people want) and locked.
