Getting ready to do Magnaflow Exhaust on 01 A6 2.7t 6M (also Denver, CO suggestions).

I know it's been discussed a million times, but my work computer doesn't let me STFA as well as I should be able to.

So I have an 01 6-speed 2.7t with Rear Park Assist.

I plan on doing the Magnaflow.

Not sure about piggie pipes, X-pipes, whatever else.

I DON'T want any ricey-sounding crap.

I don't mind louder as long as it's throaty and rumbly and not whiney or tinny.

I'd like to go as cheap as possible, but not sacrifice craftsmanship.

Also I remember reading a few of you doing work in the Denver, CO area.
Any suggestions on shops that are familiar with the cars would be greatly appreciated especially since I'll be doing the exhaust cutout.

Thanks!!!

just did mine... didn't use x-pipe.... it causes droning at low rpm..... did only the mufflers so far and the sound is nice ... low rumble...not loud at all

but next summer I'm going st8 pipe.

I installed Borla Pro XS - sound clip link included

The sound is a little deeper than Magnaflow. It is quite until you get on it. I just replaced the mufflers.

I need some help here...

I've stfa'd as much as my brain capacity can handle.

I've read everything on Stoney's page.

Is there a definitive guide to putting these in?

I think I'm ok so far with no x-pipe.

I'd like to do this as soon as possible, but work about 75 hours a week and the work computers were bad in 1997.

What part numbers should I be ordering? 14616 or 14615?

I know a million of you have done this. Please just put up a link or a url in a reply!!

Thanks

I went with a 2.5” (stock is 2.25”) system. So I used 2 mufflers : Product ID: 14616

then i got some 4" tips to fill up the space in the bumper : Product ID :35121

you can search and buy these parts on ebay just type in magnaflow and the product ID and you'll see

Thanks for the replies so far.

So as I'm searching the archives, I can't see the pictures you all are talking about, which makes things tough!

So the 14616 and the tips are stainless.

Do I need to use Stainless pipes as well?? A couple shops don't bend SS that I called.

Or is there a problem using aluminized welded to SS?

Also if I get this straight, I'm planning on doing cat-back, removing the factory resonators, running no X-pipe, the 2 14616 Magaflows, and I'm not quite decided on tips. I tend to like to Ovals, but not sure.

Also I have the Parking sensors.... are they going to be able to do this?

Also I see quite a few posts in Colorado... What shops are you guys going to??

Thanks

Anyone?

I've done lots of Magnaflow work - latest was install of Magnaflow resonators...

I disagree that the x-pipe contributes to drone, although with x-pipe and 14616 I must admit my set up had a fair amount of it. I just think you'll have it with any non-resonated exhaust. I converted to a 2.5" cat back system. The magnaflow resonators I recently installed really reduced drone - now my wife will drive the car - it was pretty bad b4. You can always not install them and then if there is too much drone install them later.

All in (parts and labor) I have about $800 into this exhaust and I'm quite happy with it.

Good luck and have fun.

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 38872. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
