got rear ended in my 97 Avant 2 weeks ago, I got rear ended in my 4.2 A6 Wed,,,
scuffed up the rear bumper, paint is peeling... and pushed in my right exhasut tip about 1".. My check engine light came on too.. I'm guessing it's probably an exhaust leak?? any other suggestions?
|
i dont think you can get a check engine light from an exhaust leak..maybe it's fuel/evap system leak
|
will a dealer be able to tell with the diag tool?
|
Get under the car & look to see if the exhaust is rubbing on anything.
The aftermarket exhaust on my S4 rubbed on the evap hose & caused a leak which caused a check engine light. The evap line may have been damaged in the accident as well.

Here is a pic of the hose on my S4. The red tape is where the leak was.

if its the evap/ fuel system then no the dealer wont be able to find it with a vag...they'll put...
smoke in the system and try to find the leak

Most likely its evap sys. leak.Check for leaks. (cracks in evap canister, fuel tank. If You need more help send me an email.

btw try to reset the light and see if it comes on again.....
it might've just been you not tightening the gas cap well...and would have nothing to do with the accident.

If You can scan your car and get me code# post it here. It might be secondary air ijection sys. problem. It sounds strange but I have seen 2 cars with this code after an accident and found a fix.
