The headlight assembly is not properly installed. Remove the headlight and reinstall it.

In addition to the fasteners mentioned in the attached procedure, there is a bracket that must be considered when installing, towards the lower inner corner of the headlight.

Cant it be FL headlight on Pre FL model or something because I don't understand how it is possible to install headlight incorrectly.
Because I measured the old and these headlights, my older ones were about 2.5cm longer.

I tried putting my mothers a6 c5 v6 headlights on my a6 c5 v8 and they didn't fit,

I also bought new aftermarket headlights for a6 c5 cars and they didn't fit,

Well I got both on the car but it looks terrible

Well...looking at ECS they list 4 different P/Ns for headlight sets for 2.7 - for 4.2 they list right and left separately so its hard to tellif these are also different. These ones listed for 2.7 are VIN # dependent, not model year.

I too went on line after reading your post and looked at a couple of different sites. They are indicating different part numbers for A6 non Quattro, Quattro, RS 6, and separate numbers for V 8 cars. Also some vendors listed units as VIN # specific. Recommend you write down the part number molded into your original existing unit, then cross reference with vendors on line. If you search with Google you will get a lot of vendors, be specific when you type in the search request (i.e. 2000 Audi A6, 2.7L headlight assembly)
