how will a 2.7T act with a fouled MAF...before I take it apart to check and see if it's clean, I

I ran a CEL on and off. Mysterious thing was 3 or 4 times, under heavy acceleration, the
engine just simply quit for a split second, then picked right up again and ran fine. It literally did a 0.2 second stall - total silence, then started up. Once the MAF was replaced, never happened again. Other than that, I didn't even notice a power loss. Car drove fine for a couple months before the MAF was swapped.

A good way to check if you have vag-com is to unplug it. If you have ESP you will get a
CEL & ABS light, and no matter what you will get some fault codes in your ECU.
BUT this will make your car run in speed density mode, and will tell you if it's your MAF or not.
Use vag-com to cleat fault codes when done testing.
