Default Jumped the car, radio died

Howdy folks,

I just got my used 1999 Audi A6 less than 2 weeks ago and the battery died while I was at work. I called my roommate over to help jump my car. My cables were attached right but she put hers on wrong; after 10 seconds I noticed it was starting to get hot (no I didn't try to start the car yet). I took off the cables and then got them set right. The car jumped fine and all the controls, intrument panels and gadgets worked fine but my radio, cd player, whole stereo sound system won't turn on. No power or anything.. any ideas? I'd rather not go to the dealerships if I could avoid it. Thanks

check fuse. But not good. Might end up replacing stereo head and independent amps if Bose.

Jumping starting a car is always a recipe for disaster.
You got lucky when the car started.

Did you check the fuses?

Default Fuses

Yeah I checked the fuses for the side panel located on the driver's side dash but I haven't had a chance to get to the fuse behind the deck. It is a Bose system and it sounded great while it was working so I'm hoping to be able to fix it. Would the venders on this site happen to have used Bose system parts or is that a dealership speciality item?

Google is your friend. Yes, I have seen symphony units steeply discounted.

The Bose/non-Bose are both programmed into the radio and you can use VagCom to switch between the two, so don't go looking for a special radio, they're all the same (if you obviously match your model). The only 'Bose' branded items are the speakers themselves (including subwoofer) and I think the rear amplifier.

Default big IF

IF it's the radio, you can come across them at excellent prices.

I bought a reman from ECS for $35. That was Symphony I, mind you, don't know if your 99 had one of those or an earlier model.

'99 A6 is the Concert I. Here's my favorite link for Audi Radios: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/radios.html it explains tons of stuff for radios between 1984 and 2004 and even has tips for programming them.

Cheapest I can find is around $100 on ebay. I know that a bunch of places were selling them on clearance en masse a year ago, but I can't find any good deals like that right now. I think you should obviously first check all the fuses and then start with getting a new head unit. You'll know immediately if your rear amplifier is bad as well because it powers the subwoofer and the rear speakers.

there is a fuse on the back of the radio that will just burn out for no reason, you have to remove the radio to access it. Iv seen it several times.
