Kiplinger's Personal Finance Best in Class 2002...Where's Waldo (aka Chuck540...;)

In my best Gomer Pyle imitation..."SUPRISE, SUPRISE, SUPRISE!!"

OK Chuck, where's the beef, or BMW for that matter. Audi A6/S6 take the best in their class. No BMW's to be seen or read about ;) (I now run to put on the fire-resistant suit and grab the fire extinguisher! Flame On!!)<ul><li><a href="http://carpoint.msn.com/browse/win_4018597.asp">http://carpoint.msn.com/browse/win_4018597.asp</a</li></ul>

Easy there...don't get Chuck started...unfortunately there are 10 "Awards" for BMWs...

for every one given to an Audi...so we best not gloat too much...ahhh, it is nice to have both of our cars on the list :)

I guess BMW's checks to the "Kiplinger Foundation for the Education of Kiplinger Executive's Children" and to the "Kiplinger Foundation for the Formation of Top-Secret Dallas Cowboy-esque 'White House'" did not arrive in time for this printing ;)

Or maybe the checks "bounced" ;) Yes, we are entitled to...

gloat every once in awhile. Sometimes it's good to be the "underdog".

No flame here, but I note the A6 won for $30- $40,000 price range, which eliminates most 5-series...

AND the A6 2.7T and 4.2.

Congratulations, the A6 2.8/3.0 "beat" the BMW 525i. I would hope so.

I guess this means the Lesux LS 430 beats the A6 2.7T/4.2 and BMW 530i/540i, in the $40,000- $50,000 class.

I rest my case! :-)

Freudian slip?...you printed Lesux (Lesucks?!?!?) when I'm sure you ment Lexus ;)

And you are right, both of our autos got beat by the Lexus. Oh well, there's always the next model year. GO AUDI!!!

Chuck540MZ 01-21-2002 07:02 PM

No slip. I take my pot shots very seriously. :-)

Puhlease! Do not count anything on Carpoint as authoritative... (Rant)

They also "report" - J.D. Power says that the Aztec is the top ranking entry SUV for 2001. The Hyundai Santa Fe was second. The Crown Victoria as the top full-size vehicle. This of course is from a survey. I wonder how many 740i and A8 owners were surveyed? They fail to mention the criteria for the survey and the number of respondents for all of the vehicles covered.

Another piss-poor job at reviewing the 2002 A6 has been done by Dan Jedlicka on Carpoint. His Cons for the A6 are:
- Shallow trunk
- Road Noise
- Awkward ignition switch location
I think these guys at Carpoint are struggling to come up with 3 real Cons. Shallow trunk compared to what, the Crown Victoria? Compared to the other cars in its class the trunk is especially deep. Road noise? My 2001 is one of the quieter cars I have been in. The 2002 is supposed to be even more quiet. He also thinks that the ignition switch should be located on the dash. Apparently we should expect to see this con listed on every other review except for handful of cars that have had the ignition elsewhere than the column since 1966. This guy can compete with his buddy Daniel Heraud for lamest reviewer at Carpoint. Dan just copied his ENTIRE A6 review from 2001 and juggled a few words in the opening remarks before reposting it for 2002. Even the typos are copied.

Carpoint is all about selling ad space. How do they sell add space? They keep as many car manufacturers as possible happy. Within a few months time you can find a car from nearly every manufacturer at the top of some comparison, poll, ranking or review.<ul><li><a href="http://carpoint.msn.com/vip/Jedlicka/Audi/A6/2002.asp">http://carpoint.msn.com/vip/Jedlicka/Audi/A6/2002.asp</a</li></ul>

That you do and you do do it very well ;)

Finman 01-21-2002 08:45 PM

Yeah, they use the same bs as a review of the S6 also...

Several parts of this lame-ass review aren't even applicable to the S6 or any Avant.
He, dickhead, err I mean Daniel, actually is most likely using his review of the A6 2.8 from 1998 as he references the differences between this A6 and the prior model...from freaking 1997.

More excellent journalism...what a joke ;(

You should check chuck, but there are about as many 30-40K BMW 5 as A6...

They load them up to be over 40K, even with the base BMW 2.5 and Audi 3.0 engines. At least here in Indy, it is a rare find to see one of either below 40k. I think it is just a marketing ploy to say "the A6 and 5 series start in the mid 30's". I think it is purely psychological. Realisitcally, the 3 series and A4 should have been in the 30-40K range since most of those cars are optioned to be priced that way.
