Location of oil temperature sender on 2.8 litre 30v
Can anyone tell me where to find the oil temp sender on a 30v 2.8 litre V6?
I know what it should look like from the parts listing ( one pin, brass, with hex body) and I'm guessing it should be around the oil filter housing but I can't see it.
Can anyone help with a pic or description?

I found a link that suggested the oil temp sender was located at the front of the engine next to the crank pulley but then confusingly the same link also said that on later cars the temp sensor was integrated into the oil level sender. Can anyone confirm if that is the case?
I have given my chassis number to the local Audi dealer who have said there is a separate listing for the oil temp sender...

its incorperated into the oil level sender .. ONLY replace it with a Hella Sender ..do NOT put a Meyle sender in as it will not work.
do a search on this subject, there is a LOT of info on it .. good luck ..

Why are you changing your sensor?
I thought mine was bad as my oil temp gauge never moved, even after a long drive. After some continuity testing I determined the the sensor wire was inserted in the wrong position in the instrument cluster wiring harness. How this happened, I don't know.... Long story short. The temp sender was perfectly fine. However, no electrical signal was getting to the gauge because of incorrect wiring.

049 919 563 B goes next to the crank pulley (number 19). Your car shouldn't have a oil level (and integrated temp) sensor. You can double check by looking at the oil pan. There shouldn't be a sensor of any kind on it. However, they may be a cut out for it on the left hand side.

My car does have the oil level sender on the oil pan. Does that mean it has 2 oil temperature senders? One integrated into the oil level sender and one from the temp sender you highlighted? IS one for the gauge and one for the DME computer?

Thanks for the pic - that is very useful. I'm changing it because the oil temp gauge on the dash does not move at all and in the next 2 weeks I will have the front of the car apart anyway for a timing belt change.

What did you ever find out about this? The reason I ask is that the check engine light keeps coming on and the code my VAG/Com comes up with is for intermittent short or open in the oil temp wiring. Lately I've been getting a dripping oil filler/can icon on the LCD display that has the word sensor under it. The oil temp guage worked fine until it started throwing the code and beeping to let me know something was wrong. When the beeps would occur, I'd look at the oil temp guage and see it sliding down to zero. I've not been able to locate a separate oil temp sender and I'm wondering if, in fact, the oil temp and oil level sensor are incorporated in the unit bolted to the underside of the oil pan on my engine. The car is a 2001 A6 Quattro with 2.8L ATQ engine.
When I install it I'll post an update on whether it fixed the issue or not. My engine is an APR
