Loud rattling on cold engine start, any thoughts???
Whenever I start my 2.7T there is a loud tapping/rattling from both sides of the engine. After about a minute or so the rattling goes away and there is a small tapping which someone told me that they thought was the injectors. Tonight for the first time the original louder tapping would still happen after I started the car after a long drive but its freezing out (22 degrees). Is this something I should worry about? I was told it couldnt be the turbos since the noise goes away but does anyone disagree with this?

What kinda of oila re you using?
sythetic, but what kind?
the grade/weight/brand?
what filter are you using?
how long is the interval so far?
My guess is lifter/valve noise at startup caused eitehr by a faulty ADBV (anti-drain back vlave) on the oil filter or use of an oil that is not suited to your engine and climate. If there is insufficient pressure and or oil flow to the lifters at startup, you will get noise untill they get oil on them.
But you say the noise is still there even when you drive the car. Is the coolant temp normal then? What temp is the oil at when it continues to make the sound after a long drive?
The lifter noise at starup sometimes happens on my father's A6 on really cold days if its parked outside, but never for more than 5 seconds. I use either 0w40 Mobil 1, or german castrol syntec 0w30 and of course the oem Mann filter.
