Mostly women drive BMW 5-series. Mostly men drive A6/S6/A8

Sorry Wilfred, but most M5's don't resemble that remark....Finman has a good observation.
I think the trend is similar to Audi. The 2.8 and now the 3.0 A6's would be picked by woman. The 2.7t and 4.2 by men. Hence, the 525,528 end of the spectrum would be woman, the 540 and of course the M5 would be the manly driven 5 series. The 530 is for the alternative, undecided, transitional or experimenting crowd.

In northern Illinois, women drive X5's, MDVs, Range Rovers,
MLs,Explorers, Grand Cherokees, Troopers, Yukons, Volvo XC's. At least there seems to be fewer Minivans. I almost never see a guy driving any BMW 3 series.
If a gorgeous woman pulled next to me, I wouldn't care if it was an A6/S8/M5 or Daewoo. I'd have to look through my right ear anyway so my wife wouldn't notice!

Seems most A6 driver are young men and women in 2.7t's 3.0's .. and .
notice that mostly men in their late 30's to 40's are driving he 4.2's and the 5 series cars.
And I agree it all depends on demographics.
Just the other day I'm cruising to work in my 4.2, and I see a new 996 C4 up ahead, weaving and zipping thru traffic, I'm thinking who's this punk, so I give the 4. 2 a lil gas and proceed to follow, but now weaving too much, when I finally get to my exit, I get off, and there 'she' goes, a middle aged woman in her c4, she smiles and waves.
Luv a woman who can 'drive'....

this chick bought her own A6 ;-)
even though my husband steered me towards the A6 over the S4. He'd like to get the A8/S8 in a couple of years depending on how the new MB E-class comes out.

I've noticed the opposite down here ->
most A6's are 2.8 and driven by women.
4.2' - all the ones I've seen have been driven by men; 2.7T's (I really don't see many down here) are about equal, with the men slightly ahead.
5 series - mostly men; all the M5's I've seen have all been men. 540's - again all men.
3-series - mostly women or very petite boys with baseball caps.

we have the element of surprise!
The men think "oh, her husband bought her that car".. until I floor it off the line or drop a gear and fly right past them to see if they want to "play".
