I was looking at rs6.com's post of the new A6, and got this info about its weight:

"...The combined effect of using aluminium,
high-strength steels including stainless steel, and tailored blanks
was that the body weight was cut by around 30 kilograms."

I assume this is a comparison to the C6 platform, if so, that's good news indeed.

indeed, with so much electronics etc. the a8 weighs more than old one inspite new ASF

Plus, all specs are <i>European</i> models only...I'd bet the North American version (if the 30 kg statement is correct) comes in <i>fatter</i> than the C5.

"body weight was cut by around 30 kilograms." They say body weight, not vehicle weight. If the engines and accessories weigh less (as they often have recently), then less weight will be on the nose, and the car weigh less overall.

But the newer A4 weighs hundreds of pounds MORE than the previous version!

the lowest cost models in a lineup usually don't see as much engineering going into weight reduction, unless that is their intent (sports cars).
