is it normal for Torque Converter get worn out during 50k miles?
 

I took my car (2003 A6 3.0 Quattro) to the several transmission shops to find out why my CEL is on, the problem was the TC(torque converter).

If I contact USA Audi, and complain about this, do you guys think that I can get it repaired?
people say that it's too early for TC get damaged. I need you guys' opinions. Thank you

While there is a TSB out on this, if you're out of warranty you're out of luck. Sorry.

yeah the warrenty was expired last year..

Not all TSB's are created equal
 

I've had some covered on my Dodge truck out of warranty. You need to check the TSB for coverage specifics. Some say on specified failure, some at next service interval, and unfortunately some only during warranty period.

Audi loves to hide behind TSB's for items that should obviously be recalls.

Enough of us for a (TC) class action?
 

Seems like enough of us have had to get our torque converters replaced (my car has been in the shop since Monday, hoping to get it back tomorrow). I can't help but wonder if we banded together if there might be enough of us to create a class action and get Audi to pony up at least something to "ease the pain". If one of us complains, they don't have to listen, but if we get enough of us together, it might be easier for them to pay us off than to be forced to spend lots of money on legal fees. I'm happy to start a list to see how many of us there are as a first step. If anyone is interested, e-mail me at dparnas@yahoo.com.

I have the same year/model. Just got mine out of the shop yesterday.
 

59k on my A6.

Dealer and AOA play games.
Dealer: "It's up to the AOA rep if we goodwill the repair"
AOA: "We stand by our dealer's decision on whether to goodwill or not."

Total cost was $2250 for TC r/r.

I'm in on a class action. Even Hyundai has a 10 year 100k mile on powertrain.

It is complete crap for a TC to go at 50k miles. I would call Audi and threaten a class action and
 

see what they say. Tell them that you have a lawyer and that you are ready to go.

Audi's brand is built on quality. Frankly that quality went way down in 98-04. They under-engineered many things for cost instead of the past over-engineering.

A class action lawsuit would bring back the cloud of the unintended acceleration fiasco (now they have the intended unacceleration drive by wire throttle nuisance).

Unfortunately, they won't act unless you force them. That is what lawsuits are for. The publicity of the lawsuit is a killer for them. It would cost way more that your $2000 TC to defend it.

If you want to really get serious, search for a class action lawsuit, in the federal court whose jurisdiction you are in. Then take the front page of the suit and replace your name as the plaintiff and Audi's name as the defendant.

Send it to them and say that if they do not replace your t/c for free, it gets filed.

See what kind of response you get.

Large companies regularly will settle frivolous lawsuits for $15-30,000 because that is what it would cost a lawyer just to answer the complaint.

You only want $2000 or whatever for a new TC that should have worked in the first place for 200k miles.
