Oil change advice
Hi all,
I just bought an A6 2.8 99 with 75k miles on it and I was wondering what kind of oil I should use. I know newer engines should use synthetic oil but since mine has 75 k maybe synthetic is not be the way to go?
Also, what other services you guys think I should do on the car? The timing belt, brakes and tires were already done by previous owner.
Thanks a bunch!

Re: Oil change advice
I bought a used 99 2.8 Avant in December with 71K on it. I did an oil change shortly after getting it and used Mobile 1. So far, it has not been an issue at all.

Re: Oil change advice
Wow, you guys are fast!! This is my first posting to the forum and I could not believe when I saw 3 answers within an hour!
Yes, it's a Triptonic with Quattro. Isn't the Audi transm. oil supposed to be good for the life of the car? The transmission works very smoothly right now...and apparently the former owner did the code change to 000032!
So any other suggestions about the engine oil type?

New fluid is yellowish-clear.
More worthwhile pics in my picposter. Click on my AID above, then click the PicPoster number, and dig around.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/autotranservicing.html">This is the how-to.</a></li></ul>

Re: Oil change advice
When I got my 99 Avant a year ago with 48K I immediately did fluid changes. Went with Synthetic and have had no issues and also had my tranny fluid changed. My local INDY shop did it for about $200. I can't say I noticed any difference but I know everything is more slippery than before in there! No leaks whatsoever coming up to 60K now. This is now the time EVERYONE here says to do the major timing belt and water pump job regardless of what Audi stated. AudiSean will ensure you of this fact, hehe.
Cheers and enjoy the car, we sure have!

Wow!! Men, I definitivelly believe my eyes. Now, how many miles did that oil have?
Any reccomendations as far as the engine oil (suynthethic or standard) to use on a A6Q with 75 k?

I'd probably try Mobil1, and watch level closely right after the first change.
That trans fluid was from an A6Q Avant, with about 60k miles. At 30 k miles, there was a drain and refill (no filter change) done, which means around 2/5ths of the fluid got changed.
You should see the Blackstone Labs oil analysis on that stuff. It isn't pretty reading.

Thanks guys! I will give Mobil 1 a shot and will post in the forum if it worked out well. Worst case scenario if starts dripping I will have to go back to standard oil.
