Is it possible to add an Aux input to the stock Audi Symphony HU?
Or maybe I should ask, does it have this already. I'd really like to be able to play my MP3 player through the stock HU. I've got a killer Pioneer unit, but I like the look of the stock dash.
Thanks! |
I don't think there's one (on the Sym I, at least).

Possible using the existing CD changer inputs, but...
...your 2003 is not prewired for the CD changer, so you'd need a cable to make the connections.
|
Yes but you lose the cd changer...blitz adapter goes into DIN plug and gives RCA inputs
|
...which is a good solution, but he already has a 6 CD changer in the headunit...
...so using up the connections for the trunk mounted CD changer is no biggie.

Re: Possible using the existing CD changer inputs, but...
I'm sorry, me being an audio recordist/sound mixer, I am a total boob when it comes to car audio.
I understand that I'll lose the CD player. But what do you mean: "...your 2003 is not prewired for the CD changer, so you'd need a cable to make the connections." Are you talking about the trunk mounted CD changer? This HU has a 6 disk changer in the dash. Thanks for the help. |
The Symphony II headunit has inputs for an external CD changer...

However, Audi removed the pre-wiring for the CD changer in 2003, but the headunit still has the inputs for it. Look in the block in the lower left of the picture. AF-R and AF-L are the audio inputs R/L for the CD changer.

Also, I just want a stereo mini input cable, I don't use an iPod... ICK!!!
So this wouldn't need to be specific to the iPod as many of these devices seems to be for the Apple product. There is a whole world of mp3 Players out there other than the iPod.
|
OK, that's encouraging...
So are you saying that those inputs can be used as Aux. inputs? Or will using those defeat the CD changer and use only the new device?
|
It will not impact the CDs in the headunit, and yes, can be used for aux inputs...
...but for sound only, no functionality with the external device.
There are other adaptors out there that will work and give you some limited functionality with the external device. Do a search (perhaps in google or this forum). |
