Question on RS6 Bumper swap...

Local club member with a 4.2 A6 recently collected some debris from a truck while traveling at speed on the interstate.

I believe he's going to go for the RS6 Bumper upgrade.

He's talked with the body shop (good shop and strong supporter of the KC Audi Club) about the upgrade and they had some concerns. Apparently when they did the upgrade for JimTheDentist (before it went up in flames) they said they had to remove the front electric fan due to fitment issues.

Is this typical to remove the front fan? I don't remember reading this anywhere and wanted to check if anyone else had to remove that.

I'll pass the info along.
TIA!

IIRC, the brace for the fan needs to be modified...

There is a large metal bar that has to be cut down a bit so it is not as thick, then the fan can work. Sorry, no pics, but I remember seeing that when I saw carbonLORD's car last year in Chicago.

Thanks...Paging anyone that might have pics or info for this?

Maybe I should contact the shop that installed the bumper and have them tell our shop what needs to be modified?

You can try cL or JAA 4.2...

I have seen this done two ways....

stoney's links shows a picture of the bumper reinforcement bent back by pounding with a hand sledge. it needs to crush back just far enough the clear the fan. less than an inch, deepest on the outside edge (toward the tire). mine is cut off with a sawz-all. either way is not pretty but never shows unless you stick your head in the engine bay.

I had the same ? Asked CL and I followed his lead.

...used a plasma cutter and notched the bumper where the auxillary fan would potentially come in contact. Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic either.

Just cut it, (Ive had it cut now, twice)

Given that Ive done the front end twice in my lifetime.
