Rattle noise in dash? Any possible fixes?

Hi all,

I hear a rattle in the dash much like the sound of a baby toy rattle. It only happens when the two front tires hit defects (potholes, cracks) in the pavement. It does not occur when only one tire hits a defect. It only occurs when both tires hit a defect at approximately the same time. It is really annoying and since I am driving, it is really hard for me to place the rattle. It sounds like it is coming from the front dash. In the dash somewhere.

Any ideas for fixing this annoyance?

Thanks

I had a very intermittent rattle that was just behind the instrument cluster face. Dealer fixed it by adding a little insulation.

I was able to stop the rattle by putting downward pressure on the dash just above the spot where the instrument cluster plastic face meets the dash. Once I demostrated this for the service manager, he had it fixed right away.

Based on your 18 posts, I'm figurin' the car's new...so...

...be sure the dealer removed the "shipping spacers" in the front suspension. These little plastic doohickeys produced EXACTLY the sound you describe under the same conditions in my car when new. These spacers are supposed to be taken out by the dealer during PDI, but a number of folks here have found that they weren't. Even if the dealer says they were removed, compel them to check visually and show you.
