Remote Control not working, even after resetting code, changing battery and trying other methods
At first one remote stopped working for no apparent reason.
I tried resetting according to Audi manual (Car off, go outside car, press Unlock/Lock on remote and then quickly unlock/lock car with same master key). Didn't work.
Then I changed the batteries with OEM ones. Didn't work.
Next tried method in ColoradoAudi's January 2001 post below. Now both remotes are not working.
I've become too spoiled using the remote for this to happen on a weekend.
Any ideas?
Coloradoaudi post:
You will need BOTH of your "switchblade" keys to reprogram one or both of them.
1 Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward, until the computer lights up but before starting the car.
2 Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
3 On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
4 With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
5 Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
6 Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.
If both of your remotes don't work, do the above for the first key, but on step #3, press the 'UNLOCK' button twice. The lights will flash twice, then continue on with step #4.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in your future. Did the lights flash in step 3?
If not, the rest of the procedure is moot as the car isn't receiving a signal from the remote. If the lights did flash, the car is receiving the remote's communication and the encoding is the problem.
I think this procedure is in the manual. Check there to make sure all steps are correct. If so, I'd suspect there might be a problem in the car part of the system. I wonder if VAG-COM would show anything?

Here's a TSB on the batteries. Sounds like the dealer may need to reset things
from the description of coding the remote to the car in the TSB.

Thanks for TSB, Tom. Lights did not flash at Step3. But remote actually worked (only) once
at Step 5 (unlocked door), then stopped working.
I had changed batteries according to the TSB. Looks like a trip to the dealer.
What could cause this problem with the remote?

Since both remotes are now out to lunch, the receiver in the car may be the problem.
Although since one worked and one didn't for a while, it might just be screwed up programming. I wish I had a copy of the recoding procedure mentioned in the TSB. Was there anything in the car's manual, I haven't had time to check mine?

Recoding Procedure in 2002 Audi manual: Press lock (or unlock) on remote, then within 1 min
use master key to lock (or unlock) the driver's door. That's it.
Apart from the potential receiver problems, do you think some anti-theft mode was activated when I used coloradoaudi's method?

Anti-theft? Not that I'm aware. Anyone with VAG COM near you? They could check for logged
error codes and see what Central Locking has to say. I'm obviously in Delaware.
I doubt that coloradoaudi's method would have uncoded the second remote ... that is the puzzeling part in my mind.

Tom, this is weird. The first remote has just started working again!
I used its master key to unlock the trunk. When I relocked trunk with key, the lights flashed with horn. I tried the remote and... suddenly it worked again.
I have no idea why this occured, other than possibly the central locking control unit J429 has reactivated (3 day time delay? or faulty mechanism/coding?). The problem first occured on Friday, and "resolved itself" an hour ago.
Unfortunately, my second remote still hasn't worked since Saturday. Maybe tommorrow it will...
PS. I followed coloradoaudi's method to the letter.

See post below, check if your remote is working again. If not, your dealer should be able to test
and supply you new batteries free in exchange.
The OEM batteries in my remote are Panasonic Lithium CR1620 / 3V, which I had to buy over the weekend.
By the way, is that Zaino? Looks very sharp on Ming Blue with the BBS.
