Default Remote Keyless Entry Range

Any idea on how to increase the remote keyless entry range??? I thought I read something about this somewhere...My '98 A6 Avant Quattro's range is awful! Brand new batteries, and you have to be right next to the car before it will work!...any ideas?

Sounds silly but place the remote under your chin as you press the button.

Yeah, or flip out the key so it can act like a little antenna! LOL 8^)

Default or hold it over your head

It works even better. Putting it under your chin does nothing except cause you to raise it higher than waist height. At waist height the radio signal has to shoot through more cars to get to yours.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I have tried these things and it just doesn't even come close to what I am used to (I work for Ford)...noone remembers the TSB that audi wrote concerning this issue? We cannot access these bulletins online anymore so I can't read it....

Default Same thing on my 98 A4

This was something they fixed as they went along. The range on my 99 A6 is excellent.

There's a TSB and I had it done on the A4, but it didn't help much. You can also hold it against your hip like a gunslinger for some added range.

Touching it to your body when you press it uses "you" as an antenna and will increase range.

I understand that a shorter range is specified for "safety" reasons. You do not want to disclose the vehicle you are heading towards too far in advance in a parking lot situation, etc. This may only be an after the fact rationalization. Don't know.

look for a factory tsb, they have an antenna extension. it actually replaced the origonal. the new one runs out of the truck via a grommet and is tucked inside the rear bumper. it cured the problem on my 98 a4

Default Try a fresh set of batteries

Happened to me once! Bought a certain brand of new batteries and range was very short or none sometimes. Changed to another brand and verified that it had a longer expiration life and worked perfectly afterwards. You can try this and hope is that simple.
