"opened up"?

I think Ewe Ross might take issue with that:-)
He reverse engineered it.

Default Little more info

Ok, did a little more snooping around and found on a TDI VW site where some folks were changing out instrument clusters and the "J123" was mentioned. It appears that J123 is actually a lamp current monitor or Lamp Control Module. On the schematic of the 2002 A6 that I have now there does not appear to be anything in the circuit for monitoring lamp current. If I look a the HID schematic, this is where the lamp monitoring shows up, but only for the two HID's. The module appears to be a single module for both lights. The relays 9&10 on the schematic are actually the two spaces the module occupies in the #13 relay panel. I believe it is located behind the knee bolster in the drivers side dash. Now I need to confirm to see if the 9&10 space is already wired since the output of the module would need to provide feedback to the cars computer. I suppose there would also need to be some VAG-COM programming also to monitor or enable it. May not be worth the effort if all it does is check for a HID lamp out. That would be pretty obvious, at night anyway.

Hello TNA6 and all others.

I want to update my S6 C5 (2000) headlamps with "angel eyes" modifications and with the brightest (xenon? HID?) light bulbs modifications possible.

I searched ebay and found many solutions but I don't trust sellers' assurnaces that their products will (a) fit my vehicle and (b) be street legal.

I was wondering if this thread is the right place to seek help... if not, could someone please direct me to a better thread, as I could not find one with the search tool?

My vehicle: Audi S6 2000 C5 (WAUZZZ4BZYN106092) Europe (Italy).

I am mechanics challenged (I did not understand any of of the jargon in this thread) so I would really appreciate stupid proof advice and links to appropriate modifications or whole headlamps. Of course, money is an important factor in the decision, but I want to remain street legal.

... thank you in advance to anyone willing to invest his time and expertise to help me.

Many of the units listed for Ebay will be correct. When it comes to Ebay, only buy from sellers with good return policies just in case. For installation search on YouTube. Many good video tutorials. I would personally go for the xenon projector beams for performance reasons.

Thank you Herleyguy for the advice re the xenon. I seem to understand that xenon are better than HID.

1. Are Xenon headlights stes THIS (the whole casing/housing with all the mirrors and bulbs) "plug and play" or will iI need a specialized installer?
2. Some sellers offer the option THIS to buy only the 2 xenon projectors + bulbs assembly, to be installed inside the existing headlight casing/housing. Is this system plug and play or will I have to ask a specialist to install also this type?

Also, I am looking for angel eyes more Audi style, like THIS, rather than like the previous style but I cannot find any that will fit my car [S6 2000 4B, C5 WAUZZZ4BZYN106092].

Thanks in advance for any help and expertise that you will share.

Tommaso
