road noise

I've had my 2.7T for over two weeks now and I'm extremely happy with the car. However, I'm hearing alot of road noise or wind buffeting when the car is over 65mph. I expected less noise in a car in the price range. Anyone else feel this way? Or is there a problem I'm missing here?

wind buffeting with sunroof open is explained in manual

Keep a window cracked if opening the sunroof all the way or not open the sunroof to the setting short of fully open. Road noise has not been a problem with my 4.2 even with the low profile rims and tires. But my vantage point is 90% urban driving where uneven roads have probably tuned my ear to accept more road noise.

Re: road noise

YES! My car has, at times but not alwaysm, a surprisingly large degree of wind buffeting noise that seems to be coming from the "front half of the car." My dealer has tried twice to locate a wind leak in a front door or at the windshield but can find no wind leaks. The conclusion he is starting to come to is that its not a wind leak but rather wind buffeting / turbulence outside the car that can be heard inside the car. If this is true, what's surprising and DISAPPOINTING for this class of car is HOW MUCH THIS NOISE CAN BE HEARD INSIDE THE OTHERWISE QUIET CAR!

BTW, this is NOT a sunroof-is-open wind buffeting noise inside the cabin (as many have complained about herein). My sunroof is not even open when I hear this noise.

This problem/noise is also intermittent. It's there one day and not the next. It DOES seem to possibly be related to how windy it is outside and at what direction that wind is hitting the car.

Yes, this is not a sun/moon roof open issue. It sounds like wind around the wheel wells.

Would the type of rims have anything to do with wind noise?

Re: road noise

Is it a low rumble, a metalic clank, or a high whistle?

I have the whistle, and it has been linked by some to the Audi external cell phone antenna.

Do you have one?

Re: road noise

It's not a rumble or clank or whistle. Put it this way, imagine yourself standing outside on a very, very windy day and the sound is constant.
