RS6, isn't it a bit late ? (more)
From what I gathered, you guys in NA will have the RS6 at the beginning of 2003, and so it migh be for us as well.
I understand that the new A6 may be released the last quarter of 2003. Purchasing an RS6 in January 2003 means that nine months down the line the car's shape will be outdated....
I suppose Audi does that purposely to keep the current A6 alive as long as possible, but hell the RS6 is going to be bloody expensive, and it's resale value greatly affected once the new A6 is released... (?)

I don't think the new A6 will be available until 2004 as a 2005...
at least in the U.S.
I also don't think the resale value of the RS 6 will be linked in any way to the presence or absence of the new A6. An RS 6 based on the upcoming A6 has got to be at least 4-6 years further down the road and it will still be, by far, the baddest Audi on the road even when compared to the possible 400 HP V-10 S6 that may show up 2-3 years after the intro of the upcoming A6.

I was thinking the same thing - why put all this into one of the older styles?
I considered an S4 when I bought the A6 instead last fall. But between driving a car that looks dated (although still looks great IMO) and the resale I opted against it.
It seems to me that a manufacturer would want to invest in a new body style for its "supercars" . . .

I wouldn't worry about resale...the RS 6 would be a car I'd keep for a very long time...
like the S6 Avant, I would plan to keep the RS 6 for at least 6-8 or more years, as long as it was holding up well. I don't think it's gonna sell really fast or anything, but it is gonna be a classic, in my mind, at least.
The S6 is soooo perfect a vehicle and so easy to drive as an everyday car, plus with the utility of the wagon format, I suspect it will be around for at least 8 years. My wife loves it, it is gorgeous, it is rare, it is very fast and feels very light and nimble...it really is the perfect combination of sportiness, stealthiness, uniqueness, and utility-ness of any vehicle out there.
The 4.2 feels ponderous in comparison...so it's replacement with the RS 6 will be welcomed...although I really do love the 4.2, when I go from the S6 back to the 4.2, it really feels heavy with a lot of pitch and dive...but it is really good-looking

Seems the RS cars take time to perfect on a given platform; can't do this without learning curve...
... of a few years of learning the limitations, problem-solving, and optimizing. With the A6 over the years, they added engines and updated them, added sport suspension options and retuned them, changed certain parts over to Aluminum, etc.. Also, a low volume production car can't be shipped with problems, or it will destroy any profit.
