Default Stereo auto off question

Hello all,

Another electronic issue is my radio does not turn off when I turn the car of and get out. I have a broken micro switch in the drivers side door (replaced it and it failed a month later Dam It) so I figured it was just that but, if I open any other door the dome light comes on but the stereo does not shut off. I suspect it is related to the instrument cluster, but I am not sure. Any ideas?

On my cars, the radio turns off when the ignition turns off... door open or closed. Mine are Symphony with Bose system.

According to the Symphony Sound System manual: "Normally the radio is switched on via the ignition key - that is - the radio is controlled by the ignition. If you switch off the ignition while the radio is turned on, the radio shuts off automatically. When you switch on the ignition, the radio comes on again."

That's how my '04 worked also. Symphony/ Bose unit as well.

My radio turns off when I remove the key from the ignition. If I leave it on that is. Mine is a Concert though

That is exactly as I recalled also.

edit:But thought perhaps the radio could stay on if you did not open a door? I know the windows will still close with the key out as long as you don't open a door.End Edit

I have a brand new Ignition switch and the radio still stays on. So is my new Ignition switch bad???? Friggen car.....I have hopes that it is still controlled via the Can Bus through the instrument cluster. We shall see.

Default VCDS has some options for this.

In VCDS I was able to code whether I wanted the radio to stay on or shut off with the key. Worked with factory Symphony and aftermarket Kenwood. FWIW
