Strange, Annoying noise (video enclosed) Please Help.
Hi guys and girls,
I have a very annoying issue with my car which started a couple of months ago. Not getting worse or better. Hoping somebody here would have an idea or two please.

Car garages I have visited just want me to leave them with the car for a couple of hours. So that’s £100 gone straight away!
I suspect the noise is coming from the catalysts or exhaust perhaps heat shield. The sound certainly comes from that location anyway.
This irritating noise only happens under low revs (pulling away etc) and not constant once moving only initially.
Any help would be gratefully received!
Thanks,
Chris.

hard to tell. I would get a long screwdriver or metal rod and if you touch it to various areas while holding one end against your ear, you will be able to pinpoint the source. Could be something loose near exhaust, but it almost sounds rotational. Your cams/valve train sound noisy/dry.

Hi,
Somebody has said that it could also be the turbo bearing. I tried your metal to ear trick but didnt have much luck.
Thing is, car drives fine. Turbo is still very noticable/responsive. I plugged in VAG-COM, no faults found on engine, engine parameters all within range, no leaky oil, smells or such things.
I might just rip the exhaust off tomorrow and give it a flush or something lol.

Sounds like a dry chain rattling.....clanking? I would weigh in with 4D4 to look at the chain on that side of the motor........Passenger side is on the back of the valve cover, so the stethoscope/steel rod to ear would give you an idea. ....If the chain is loose, then replace tensioner......very weird noise...

Hi,
Just thought I would do the descent thing and post what the noise issue actually was turbo waste gate flapping loose/hanging off. Turbo is out for a fix and cleanup. Should be good as new and quite soon!
Thank you to all those who replied and offered their assistance. Very much appreciated.

Thanks...I guess there would have been drivability issues as well as the noise?

The noise was very gradual to begin with and got worse overtime. It could potentially have recked the turbo had I not got it looked at now rather the later.
Yes, I certainly shoudln't really have driven it 60 miles a day, up and down the highway for the last 6 months lol. Oh well, lucky I dont need a new turbo at least.
