Default SOLVED hopefully new tcm then red shift indicator

hey guys thanks ahead of time for all the help I'm gonna need! haha
so last week I bought a 2001 a6 4.2 with 145k km for 500$
the interior had been flooded tcm corroded
previous owner had audi remove the interior steam clean and dry all for 3000$
then audi told him it would be another 5000 to repair and put it all back together
so he sold it to me for 500$

so tonight I go my new tcm in there and she drove like a dream for about an hour
then the lcd display between the tach/speedo went dark and the prnd321 all lit up red again!
any ideas whats going on here??
do I have to clear all the previous error codes??
thanks again guys!!

Probably a good idea to clear all the codes and start fresh. Be sure to use a VCDS Audi specific scan tool to read all the systems. I am thinking you will have a multitude of electrical problems if the interior has been flooded. The transmission control connection could be faulty. Inspect the connector thoroughly looking for corrosion, moisture, etc. How bad was the flooding?

Well this morning I fired it up and all good!!
im definitely thinking it's all the previous codes.
The flooding was just the passenger floor.
The stealership was trying to rob the poor previous owner. I'm looking into a rosstech vcds now!
Thanks!!
The connector is pristine!

If you can I say go with Ross Tech. Not cheap but affordable as it will pay for itself in very short order in the form of savings on repairs. In the mean time you could try a "hard reset" by disconnecting the battery for a bit ( hour or more) even overnight. Then reconnect. This will often clear some codes. The damage is often inside the control module in the form of corrosion and broken contacts. Is the replacement tcm new new or a used one that you purchased that is new to the car? Could have gotten a faulty replacement. A VCDS scan is important at this point. Make sure the transmission is functioning properly so you don't cause any damage.

The TCM is a used one from a wreck.
i opened it up and it's clean as can be.
I will try the hard reset and report back!
Thanks!!

SOLVED!!!! I hope! haha
so I had a chance to have another look at the tcm and deciede to open up the connector
inside I found almost no corrosion except for one little red wire had green on the jacket!
gave it a little side to side then a little pull and POP snapped in half!!
after some cleaning and a little rewiring I have no red shift indicator!! YES!!!!
lets hope it stays that way!

That was most likely the problem. A common issue after a flooded cabin floor. I'm crossing my fingers. Still recommend a scan to look for fault codes.
