Is there any way that stock 255/40/17 tires could rub on the inside with stock suspension?

STFA'ing, I found this post that includes a pic that looks similar to what I've found. I'm sure an alignment is in order, and a check of the control arms...

We've gotten about 45k miles out of the Bridgestone 750's, and there's still a little tread left, but the insides are chewed up.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/570903.phtml</a

Not rubbing but alignment or mechanical problems.

Default that pic doesn't look like rubbing issues, but as Egil says above if you have that

level of wear you have some significant alignment issues and possibly parts that need replacing.

I hope you're not driving on a tire that looks like that, or anything to close to that.

Default Both my prior A6 Avants (2.8 and allroad) had some uneven wear but it was the outside...

...and neither looked anything like THAT. They just wore more on the outside and became cupped. I'm going to make sure to rotate them more regularly on the S6 and get it aligned every 15k. I'll also have them re-mounted at 15k to go on the opposite side of the car.

Audi quattros do chew up tires but your problem must be mechanical or allignment.

Default that looks like an alignment issue, similar to what I had on my old Avant>

which had wear on the inner shoulders of both front tires.
when I brought it in for alignment, they said it was way off... obviously!
