Default timing belt

please - i need help. i own a 2000 A6 2.7T 6sp. bought it new. no upgrades or mods. serviced by the book. 64K mi. just had it in to dealer for 60k service. they could find nothing wrong. they put in new plugs, filters. one month spouse driving along at 35 mph and the motor literally blows up with white smoke and loss of power. had it flat-bedded to dealer. diagnosis is blown bearing on tensioner for timing belt and resulting missing teeth in timing belt and resulting blown engine. cost is approx $9000!! this is a total shock as the car was running fine and maintained as per specs. does anyone out there have any input? we are in serious pain. thanks jeem Enumclaw WA

Default I would blame the dealership and make them pay

for not realising the possible threat and you guys could have ended up in a ditch or maybe have an accident.

Default Sorry to hear....

Sounds like its time for a used motor. I'm surprised the dealer didn't suggest a timing belt/waterpump job at that time.

Not according to AoA - I think the dealer has responsibility here

Bummer. I'm near Lake Tapps. Which dealer did you take it to - Larson's, Barrier, University, or?

...for the money they charge!!! 3 times as much as all the other, normal shops!!!

Default i agree + call AoA to report this incident ...

its same i went thru first they don't want accept my recall because of 64k miles on car (AoA said when you have a 60k service they will find out and fix it or point the possible problem) but i told them i have a invoice and there is 58k miles (when i replace them) so AoA pay for control armes!!! Good luck and keep us updated !!!

Default What is the Audi specified timing belt interval?

Not indy recommended, or dealer recommended, but the AOA scheduled interval?

Default You know there is service action/recall on early 1.8T A4's

in response to a class action suit brought by owners cars with early timing belt failures. I'll post more on it later. Its quiet clever yet dispicable what Audi has done on this issue.
