Either do a VCDS scan of the trans codes or remove the electrical component box under the carpet, open and inspect closely looking for evidence of wetness or previous wetness. If so search this forum for advice on how to proceed. Likely if carpet was wet the box got wet. Whether it got inside the box is the question. But maybe your issue lies elsewhere. Thus the VCDS trans fault code search.

thanks Clancy the code was reading 1703 improper gear ratio I think. I did take the tcm out and opened no water was in there. I put it back together it ran well for 1/2 and then went into limp mode again. Any more ideas out there is welcome.

Without seeing it, my guess would be that the module got wet and was compromised. No water present now but may have evaporated after damage occurred.

Agree it got wet once. There were remedies posted about this previously and how to try to fix.
