Trying to fix an exterior door handle problem.

Only opens when fully extended. Took the door card off but I can't see the rod. I could feel the rod and the clip it was attached to. It was movable so I tried up and down and nothing changed. Is there a way to fix it by feel or do I need to remove another part?

You'll have to remove the door channel to access the inside of the exterior handle.

Once you remove the channel you'll be able to see whats going on.

Door channel being the window guide or the locking mechanism?

Door channel meaning the window guide.

I was afraid that's what you meant. I'm sure out's not a big deal though.

Once you remove the door card its really not all that bad, just disconnect the wiring harness from the window motor, and make sure all the other connections are removed from their respected clips on the door card. Disconnect the interior door latch. Disconnect the clip for the mirror. lastly remove the 4 bolts on the sides of the door (they are located near the jambs and hinges). Once you remove those the window channel pulls out from the top.

Good luck!

Let me know if you have any questions.

It would also be useful to mark the exact positions of the screws with a permanent marker, since the whole door component carrier is adjusted to the body of the by these screws...
