Uh Oh...98k miles and leaky camshaft seals - LONG/ADVICE REQUESTED
Just did 100k service last week and put on new rubber all around (Bridgestone Potenzas 960 A/S Pole Positions). Then took a 600 mile round trip this past weekend from White Plains to Ithaca for my nephew's graduation. $1600 all in for everything.
I was hauling...as usual. Stink coming from engine compartment was almost overwhelming especially at coffee stops and pee breaks. Took it back to my guys at Classic today. "Oh yeah they say, we noticed some small leaks coming from camshaft seals but just spayed seals with cleaner to see if it was really leaking". The cleaner was probably dripping on the hot exhaust manifold and stinking up the joint.
Anyway to replace all the seals and all parts is $2000; $300 in parts $1700 in labor. Is this reasonable? Or is it time for a Prius?

$300 buys a lot of parts. The labor is on the high side too.
I just ordered 4 cams seals for my 99 - I think they were about $10 total.
How long has it been since your last timing belt change? Consider doing a full service since the belt will have to be removed anyway.
Consider doing cam adjuster seals and cam plugs while you are in there, as well as the suction pump and check values.
BTW, if you do all these seals with the timing belt service, you won't have this issue. Doesn't help now, but it might in the future. I can't tell you how many times I've read on this forum that "the seals looked OK, so I left them" from people doing timing belt changes. It may work with some seals, but very, very rarely is this a good stategy for cam adjuster seals.
