Wiper Problems

Hi All,

Hi Guys, new to the forum but have an issue with my 1999 A6 4.2V8 Quattro (C5)

Got a bit of a strange one that only started happening yesterday,

When you put the wipers on they move incredibly slowly probably around 15 seconds from side to side, and sometimes they start clicking when they are just short of their resting point,

If I put them on full speed they just stop and do not move at all,

I tried lifting the wipers away from the screen and switched them on and this had the same effect If I move the wipers whilst powered on I can "assist" the wiper to move from side to side.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

I am thinking its the motor or the relay but is there anything I could check to confirm either way.

If it is the motor are they all the same or do they change from model to model?

its the pivot point where the wiper arm fastens on to the housing .. water leaks down in and rusts it up . fix it now and you can save yor motor. I took mine completely apart and rebuilt it . you might need a couple of rubber o rings to seal and some good grease for metal on metal.

you may have to pull the CPU box to get the assembly out . not too bad if your mechanicaly inclined.

Thanks for the quick reply guys,

How does the wiper pivot point come out?

Do i need to remove the whole linkage or can i do it in situ?

Trying to avoid pulling the whole thing apart unless I have to,

Thanks guys

Craig

Just undo the bolts holding the wiper arm, and lift the arm off. Likely will need to pry it off, but don't scratch the glass. Pry on both sides at the same time so that the wiper arm lifts up, not at an angle.

my opinion is if you are going to do it, do it right. Spend an afternoon pulling the whole linkage out and rebuild it. I think there are spring clips holding the pivot in the housing , dont quite remember. You want to redo both sides anyway as you dont know which side is causing the issue so just pull it.
