Default "to engage steering lock, press and hold stop button"

This has been happening off and on for the last couple of months. using the SmartKey, I park and use the "Stop" button to kill the engine.

But when I open the driver door, I get a tone like I left the lights on, with a warning on the display "to engage steering lock, press and hold stop button".

I was at the dealer this morning for an unrelated issue and they hadn't heard of this happening. They reset the sensor that detects the Park position.

But this evening it happened again. I'm not able to lock the car, and the side marker lights remain lit.

Anyone have an idea about this? There are no codes.

Default ??? My brand new '08 has always said that from day one.

Isn't pushing the "stop" button once like turning the key from "run" to "on"? And the second push of the stop buttton is like turning ignition to "off" which also locks the steering column.

Default Maybe not so clear, sorry

The first part of the message says that I must "Put the shift lever in Park or the car may roll away"

Yeah, that would be important to know, huh.

Ah ok. That's not normal :-) They should replace the sensor that detects "park".

Default My car is totally disabled this morning

Brake pedal is locked, I get a couple of icons on the dash, the gear lever won't move, not even the glove box will open.

I'm waiting on a tow.

Default earlier today....

Went down to the garage this morning to do about 3 hours of running around town. Bank, dry cleaners, get in a quick run, etc.

Didn't happen.

Default Same problem

Hi.

I know this is a old thread but now I have the same problem. How did you fix it?
